Description

An introduction to the spiritual warfare element of missions that arises whenever the gospel penetrates new territory. Attention is given to spiritual attacks aimed at the missionary as well as the spiritual bondage that exists in individuals and societies. Students are challenged to prepare for this conflict while reflecting on a biblical worldview as opposed to animistic or certain Enlightenment presuppositions.
This course is designed to equip students to face spiritual issues that frequently arise in idolatrous, pagan, cultures as well as post-modern environments. The Christian life is meant to be a war against evil, but this is often more intense in mission contexts. Missionaries often cite this area as the greatest gap in their preparation. The correct response to unbalanced approaches to spiritual warfare is not to ignore the battle, but to prepare in ways that are both biblical and practical.
